Burning out for a cause
Heartbroken by the loss of her cousin Nathan to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in August 2015, Rebecca Nissen has channelled her sadness into a newfound passion for fundraising.
Rebecca began fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy SA earlier this year, when she was inspired to combine her love of burnout photography with her passion for supporting Muscular Dystrophy SA.
She began collecting donations at a burnout event in May, but launched her fundraising campaign in earnest at this year’s Winter Ponde drag racing event.
Rebecca was able to harness the support of the whole Ponde community and raise just shy of $500 for Muscular Dystrophy SA.
Setting herself a goal of raising $200 for the organisation, Rebecca sold Muscular Dystrophy SA merchandise, as well as raffle tickets to raise funds. The raffle prizes were something extra special, with the ‘Dilligaf Crew’ and the ‘Ihoon2 Crew’ both donating rides in burnout cars for the lucky winners.
Rebecca also received support from event caterers Off Tapas Catering and professional motorsport photographer and event emcee Paris Charles, who spruiked her fundraising throughout the day.
Fortunately for Muscular Dystrophy SA, Rebecca hasn’t stopped there. She has many plans for future fundraising activities, and hopes to dedicate 10% from her photography fees to the organisation.
Muscular Dystrophy SA would like to thank the Ponde community for getting behind Rebecca in her fundraising efforts and supporting our organisation.
